I love Dolly Parton movies, I could have them on re-run all day long while doing other stuff around the house, there's something so attractive about a girl who is totally over the top but also smart, strong and basically kick ass in the work force! I also have a tacky side and am a big fan of her hair, the bigger the better, I mean the lady knows what she want!

With holiday season came a lot of parties and great food, I gladly tagged along to various parties with friends, and it was absolutely awesome to attack the mountain load of free food, in fact, this year the Christmas parties have been so awesome, I didn't even bother to decorate my own house or prepare any holiday meals.

Yesterday was Dita Von Teese's book signing event at the Grove in LA. I decided to make this a half day LA trip and drove out very early in the afternoon in order to beat the crowd, and beating the crowd I sure did, me and some other fans waited a few hours early and we were at the top of the line! I simply had to go meet her in person since I've been so fascinated by her for quite sometime, the temptation was too great!
Dita was very gracious in person, and very patient mind you the line of fans was quite long. When I walked up to get my book signed she said she loved my brooch and asked me if it was new or vintage, when I said it was vintage, she jokingly said "wow you are lucky I didn't see it first!" I was just completely blown away because I chose the brooch hoping she might comment on it, and then she said she has a similar one, we almost started a chit chat about vintage brooches and oh how I could keep talking to her about vintage, but so many people patiently waiting so I took my picture and walked off in a daze.

I'm never someone that skips holidays, I love to cook and prepare and decorate, and if no one does them for me I just do it myself so I won't miss out. This year I had a wonderful small party and ordered turkey from restaurant, it was probably the most delicious turkey I've ever had and doggies got some too.

Summer seemed to be lingering on forever, and then suddenly the nights got very cold, and now we have sweater weather. I dug into Kelly's clothing drawer and discovered several cute sweater that I completely forgotten about.
This week I collected all the Halloween stuff and dug out my fall decor from storage, I think you almost can never go wrong with seasonal decor, they just always look good no matter what!

I finally figured out the secret to not wasting food is to cook with smaller pots. I made this chicken and veggie soup after work and it's super quick and tasty. This tiny pot makes about three bowl of soup, and now I have dinner and left over for breakfast tomorrow morning!
Top off the finished product with cubes of avocado and black tortilla chips, turned off the light and lit a candle, that completes the amazing, easy and elegant dinner for one!
I love treasure hunting in vintage and antique shops, some shop owners are so gifted with curating and displaying their merchandise, that shopping there is almost like walking into a period movie set.
This 1920s tray was something I had seen before and thought it had been sold. The bottom is lined with faded green velvet and the glass mirror had delicate flower etching on it. When I discovered that it was still available, I couldn't pass up my opportunity this time around!
Here it is sitting on my coffee table displaying some of my vintage brooch collection, what a beautiful little tray!
My father came and stayed with me for about a month and half and just left yesterday, it was hard to say the least, but I'm slowly reclaiming my house back. I think as a person ages it's absolutely important to have your own space and your own life, there may not be much to it but still a place you can relax your mind and just be yourself after a long work day.

I found this large kerosene oil lamp at my local antique store, it's simplicity is so perfect. I turned off the lights in the house after setting up this lamp, my house instantly quiet down. It made a lot of items in my room seemed redundant. Our modern life is so complicated, there are so much background noise and distractions, I wonder if all that modern conveniences or advances are worth the price we pay for? Sometimes it could be a good thing to step back in time a bit.
