I finally got around to get this antique mirror installed on the wall.  My tiny attic bedroom is really coming together nicely!  This year I got the second floor painted a very light shade of pink and decluttered a lot of junk that was doing nothing but taking up space.  I found this vintage vanity from a antique mall and the mirror came from a local antique store.  That plus a small leather arm chair and the bed was all I had space for, but I'm so happy to be surrounded by pretty and useful things, changing up the decor really brought a very different relaxing energy into this part of the house.

I like to at least freshen up my wardrobe a little bit at the change of every season.  With so much unexpected expense this year I hardly was able to do any shopping.  It seemed a lot of my summer dresses fit for super warm weather from last year were all worn out and I was in bad need to get some new clothes.  For heavy working days a pair of comfortable flats and a light weight dress are all that's needed to get me through the day so dresses are definitely a must in my wardrobe stable.

This summer I've been watching a lot of 60s and 70s movies and I'm really taken with bold prints and bright colors.  Quite a bit of my outfits are 60s inspired but why not?  I've ordered a few vintage jewelry pieces to go with my summer dresses and I can't wait to see how everything turns out.

Another summer and another birthday, I feel like with every year as we get older we have to discover new things within ourselves and love ourselves a little differently, because we are ever involving and experiencing life from new perspective.

This orchid that rarely blooms sent out so many fabulousl blooms in time for my birthday as if it was trying to give me a present!

Typical day...

I wore this 1960s vintage pendant to work yesterday and everyone seemed to like it.  It's a beautifully made piece and has very pretty pink cabochons.  I'm really having a moment with 60s fashion, and I wonder why they haven't made a strong come back like the 50s fashion.

For dinner last night I made steak with peas and macaroni salad.  I'm so clumsy at cooking, now that I hardly cook it gets even worse, but at least I try!

Entertainment in the evening came from amazon prime.  I've just discovered Goldie Hawn's early movies and they are absolutely delightful.  I don't know about other people, but just having some peace and quiet at the end of a long work day is heaven for me!

I don't have any real jewelry but I do have a ton of cheap vintage rings that I found either online or at antique malls.  Sometimes I would find a super nice one for $25 or when I'm lucky I would find a ring lot online that would give you a truck load of rings for $20.  I'm usually attracted to maybe one or two really colorful statement rings in the photo, but when the package arrive you can guarantee to find at least several really good rings that weren't even noticeable in the pictures.  The little heart shaped solitaire in the second picture has so much lovely detail and is a cute vintage Brighton ring.  These rings are most of the time at least 60 years old and still shine on after all these years.

I love the idea of having a lot of sparkle for very little cost, it's great for dressing up for a fun evening out or just to make a regular work day more interesting.  On a particular busy day, it's simply good for morale to be dressed up and accessorized well.  I work in an environment where dressing up is absolutely required, but I never shy away from flaunting my cheap rings in front of my important clients.  I guess at the end of day you can have great style without breaking the bank and that's more than good enough for me.

4th of July went by rather uneventfully except the few earthquakes that shook me up a little.  It just hit me that I was not prepared for any kind of small emergency at all.  So first chance I got yesterday I stopped by the hardware store and bought a bunch of stuff, extra batteries, flashlight, fire extinguisher, gloves, etc.  I also stocked up on dog food and water and bought tv and furniture straps to secure them to the wall.  I'm going to work on making a small emergency kit for the car and for my dogs as well for the coming week or so.  This stuff takes some time so I will just have to get to a bit at a time.

I spent last evening securing the tv with safety straps and putting museum putty under delicate porcelain decors.  My handyman will have to help me with securing the bookcase and installing the fire extinguishers on the wall among a few other things, it does feel good to take some safety precautions around the house.

I took off work early in the afternoon and took all four dogs to the dog park.  Under the watchful eye of everyone in the dog park I dragged four beasts inside and tried not to pay attention to the stares.  Obviously it could be a bit awkward as everyone was trying to figure out if I had a hoarding problem, but who cares!  The pups had a great time, we stayed a long time and Fie Fie didn't want to leave!  He really really wanted to keep playing but it was dinner time.  Once we came home I prepared dinner for everyone and the rest of evening was probably the most quiet I've had in a while as all the pups were completely worn out.

New Year Preparation

I always like to do a bit of preparation at the end of each year to welcome the new year, although this year things were very challenging, I...
