For the past few weeks, whenever I went to Trader Joe's for grocery, I always found a small pot of cattleya orchid hiding among many Phalaenopsis orchids. It's $8 per orchid with flower pot included, too good of a deal to pass up! Over time I accumulated four of these small orchids with different colored flowers, and they have become quite the sight on my desk!

I received this orchid from my friend last year, it's grown a baby orchid on top after the blooms fell off. Recently the baby orchid started blooming flowers again, but it seems like the flower spike is taking way too much energy from both of the orchid plants, so I've decided to cut off the flower and separate the two orchids into two different pots.

Here it is, the baby orchid now is in a plastic container. I cut off the flower spike in hope that more energy will go towards helping the new orchid adapt and grow healthy!  Let's hope it will get bigger and stronger in a few months!

Remember my post when this Chinese elm tree had almost no leaves? Well, a new head of "hair" has grown out for this little fellow now!

And a fairy is resting and looking into the koi pond under the giant Chinese elm tree:)

Another long and stressful day at work, I came home late and realized that I was totally out of dog food. I guess my puppies will just have to go without a meal tonight, eat scrambled eggs with parmesan cheese.

I am still trying to figure out exactly what goals I want to accomplish this year and we are well past mid February. And honestly? Nothing much! There is not a whole lot of things I need as far as I'm concerned, and as far as things I desire? Of course a lot of things, but I'm not so sure that things I desire would bring me the kind of satisfaction that I hope they would bring.

If there's one goal I have this year it is to cherish what I already have, and to soak up each present moment as much as I can.  Often times I spend too much time working or just starring into a screen if I'm back home, my doggies would protest mildly for me to give them attention.

My one goal this year is to walk my pups as much as I can, at least once a day, and I want to try to take them to the dog park at least once a month.  And if I could manage these two things I might try to throw in preparing them fresh raw food too! And that's it, my new year resolution, in the most meaningful way that I can think of, just taking better care and giving love to my puppies!

Blog of note

I recently discovered a blog dedicated entirely to the style of J.B. Fletcher! I suppose I am not the only person that took on a interest in Ms. Fletcher's style. To see more of her posts click here.

Today was a throughly relaxing day, I didn't finish everything that I had to do around the house but gotten around to some of them made me feel a whole lot better.

Kelly doesn't really play any kind of game like the boys too, but occasionally she gets excited when she finds this bear laying around the house, she would squeak in excitement and proudly show off her found treasure then jump into her bed with it. She does this once in a while and it was one of the cutest thing in the world, and the whole house knows whenever that happens the princess is in a really good mood!

My garden is starting to show signs of spring, I mean we never really had a winter here in Orange County. I always hope for a few decent weeks of cold weather, but it just never happens that way! Now we are mid way through February and the young green leaves are already coming out from my miniature trees.

And here is Mr. Uggie bathing in the sun! He watched me working in the backyard repotting plants and trimming overgrown fairy gardens, whenever I could spend time with my doggies at home I always feel like we all had good quality time!

Lately I have been experiencing quite a lot of stress from work, sometimes even I am surprised how quickly it could effect my over all health.  I'm slowly learning how to make adjustments so that I could relieve and manage the stress and living better quality life!

Now when I'm back home from a long stressful day of work, I try to leave it at the door and completely relax my mind.

Either I watch a great tv show, read a good book, soak in the bath, or drink a pot of delicious herbal tea, or all of the above!

Of course my doggies give me a lot of love too!

When I water my plants and breathing in some fresh cool air in my backyard at night, I'm very thankful that I have this space to relax and be myself. I cannot imagine any kind of outside trouble is worthy of bringing them into this peaceful little corner of the world that belongs to me.

I never made my new year resolution right on time, but I'm still not too late for the Chinese new year! Among the list, I am thinking of adding learning a Chinese instrument as part of it, or least get started on it.

Have you ever seen a baby praying mantis? I had never seen one before tonight, and then I found one while watering one of my African Violets, the big dark green shiny leaves had a tiny praying mantis that's thinner than a hair, well almost.  It was laying there belly up and did not look too good, so I gently scooped it up on my finger tip and took it outside. While wondering what would be a good place to leave it, I decided that the best place would be one of my fairy gardens!

I picked a red petal off a flower and left the praying mantis on it, and placed some fallen maple leaves around the flower petal to provide it some shelter.

I think my miniature gardens would be a absolute wonderland for real fairies, however praying mantis looks pretty darn close!

Besides being in my beautiful garden, there's this puppy watching over the surroundings, he would be happy to have a guest visit!

Then there's this kitty, who sometimes tip toes on the grass or sometimes peeking out on top of the house!

Here's a close up of a temporary praying mantis house, I hope this little guy pulls through!

One of my favorite thing to do in the morning is to look through various plants I have inside and outside the house and water them if needed. Because I have so many plants now, I almost always have flowers blooming, or about to bloom, or new buds springing out. It's amazing to discover each day what surprises these plants have to offer. I had a friend that once told me, plants seem to know whether you want them or not, and by giving them care I feel the communication between me and these gorgeous flowers as if they are thanking me caring for them by showing abundant  blooms!

I ran into an Asian outdoor swap meet today. There were so many vendors selling all kinds of goodies from exotic plants to Chinese new year decorations to fruits.  I picked up this "money tree" and decorated it with a bunch of small lucky charms!

I also bought a couple of oriental style pot for my house plants, they were becoming too big for the containers that they came in!

Of course, I couldn't resist pretty orchids either!

New Year Preparation

I always like to do a bit of preparation at the end of each year to welcome the new year, although this year things were very challenging, I...
